"Local is what we do best."

The early Berry Farm
The Chatham Berry Farm LLC is a family-owned and operated farm and farm store. Founded in 1982 by Joseph Gilbert, The Chatham Berry Farm has been providing Columbia County and the surrounding areas with local, healthy and wholesome food for 35 years. Starting out as a tractor-pulled fruit stand, The Chatham Berry Farm has evolved over the years into a fully-functional, year-round vegetable and fruit farm (including greenhouses) and store. All of the vegetables and fruit grown at The Chatham Berry Farm are pesticide-free. Specializing in local, all-natural and organic products, the store carries produce and products from over 100 local vendors. Open all year round, The Chatham Berry Farm's philosophy is that good, wholesome food should be available all year long. We like to think of ourselves as 'Your Every day Farmers Market!"

The Early Years of The Chatham Berry Farm

Family Farm

PictureJon Gilbert with his father, Joe Gilbert
As a first-generation farmer, Joe has many jobs: he's the owner, head farmer, a horticulturist, propagator, plumber, electrician, carpenter, butcher, landscaper, etc. But the most important job for Joe is fatherhood. Joe is creating a thriving business with a future. The Chatham Berry Farm is on its way to becoming a multi-generational farm. You can't grow without roots. Here's a picture of Joe and his oldest son Jon in the hydroponic greenhouse, Bel Fiore. Beautiful heads of lettuce are growing in the channels beside them.

Farm & Fields

Early times at the farm
Currently, The Chatham Berry Farm consists of twenty-two acres of farm land. Fifteen acres are dedicated to berry production. Outdoor vegetable production occupies several acres, while the rest of the vegetables are grown within four of the year-round greenhouses. Ornamentals and flowers are grown on roughly one and a half acres. The rest of the farm is comprised of cover crops and rotational compost fields.
